To achieve car-like acceleration for full size SUV with curb weight in excess of 2 tonnes, above average size engine with ample power is necessary.
Large vehicle with all wheel drive and large engine will translate to large manufacturing costs and large price tag passed on to the car buyer. SUVs are typically the most expensive models offered by any given manufacturer and often yield higher profit margin than sedans or hatchbacks.
