Fastest SUVs
Top 26 fastest sports utility vehicles. Updated May 2025.
Sports utility vehicles (SUVs) offer more space, higher driving position and off-road capability. They are ubiquitous worldwide, and for many manufacturers SUVs are best selling type of passenger vehicle, beating sedan and compact hatchback sales.
This versatility and style comes with cost in performance, due to extra weight and powertrain losses from permanent all wheel drive systems and larger wheels.
For top speed, even more problematic is increased frontal area. This can be partially countered with extra power from large engines that SUVs can accommodate.
Some manufacturers are producing SUVs with sloping roof-line and lower overall height, which, when equipped with modern turbocharged 8 cylinder engines, can reach speeds in excess of 300 kph (190 mph).
